With COVID-19 attacking our country in March, the tri-county area saw a lot of the annual sporting events canceled during 2020. Road races were called off, with some being done using alternative methods. The FirstTry Triathlon had to cancel as did Linden’s Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. They were all sound decisions, obviously.

However, one event did figure a way to compete. While it wasn’t during the same time of the year as usual and the event had to deal with many adjustments, the Wings Of Mercy Runway 5K race still figured a way to have an actual event in 2020. The event was scheduled for late June, but had to be moved to late August. And the numbers were limited to just 99 people and two different races.

 Still, the actual event happened.

“We were pleasantly surprised how many people understood the situation and when they finished their race, walked to their cars to cool down, got their bags and masks and walked out. They didn’t mingle.”
