Apparently this year was never a rebuilding season for the Fenton varsity girls golf team.
The Tigers’ senior-less regional squad captured a spot in the D2 state tournament by taking third in the Mason regional at Eldorado Golf Course on Thursday.
Fenton took third with a team score of 363, 10 strokes ahead of fourth-place East Lansing. Mason (362) finishing second while Pinckney (357). The top three teams qualify for the state meet.
Holly placed eighth (402) at the event while Linden (405) was ninth.
Fenton had a team of three juniors, one sophomore and a freshman. Brook Herbstreit finished third overall with an 18-hole score of 81. Katelyn Burkett shot a 90 while Olivia Herbert carded a 91. Victoria Carnell shot a 101 and Elise Roberts carded a 107.
Holly’s Kate Brown and Kelsey Malone led the Bronchos, each shooting 96s. Kendall Stilwell (102) and Makayla Bilbia (108) completed the Bronchos’ team score.
Linden’s Hannah Baldwin also shot a 96 while Cassandra Most carded a 102 and Kaitlyn Straub shot a 103. Ella LaMothe shot a 104.
