The Holly varsity cross country program competed at the Oakland County Championships on Saturday with the boys team finishing 16th and the varsity girls placing 25th.
However, Ashley Sobczynski was the big story for the Bronchos. The Holly freshman placed second in the women’s varsity race with a time of 19:16.7, only finishing behind Rochester freshman Lucy Cook’s first-place time of 18:57.8.
Sobczynski has won both Flint Metro League jamborees this season and has yet to finish worse than eighth at any of her varsity races. She will be the favorite entering Wednesday’s Metro League Meet.
There were 37 full teams with 251 runners in the men’s race. Holly was led by Mason Rosa who placed 31st (17:47.3). He was followed by Zachary Rockafellow (18:07.1), Grant Hoffman in 91st (18:49.4), Adam Booher in 156th (19:54.2) and Brandon Strickert in 157th (19:55.0).
The varsity girls race had 222 runners complete the 5K event. After Sobczynski, Jessica Booher was 150th (24:17.8), Hannah Lee was 162nd (24:50.7), Ambrielle Hoffman was 187th (25:58.9) and Alison Rockafellow was 192nd (26:05.9).
