The Fenton varsity boys cross country team won its fourth straight Metro League title last fall.

Davisburg — Adam Jesse has been running on the Fenton varsity boys cross country team all four seasons he’s been at the school.

His senior class also accomplished something that no other Fenton varsity boys cross country team has ever done.

He’s been a part of four straight league championships.

The Tigers earned their fourth straight crown by taking first place at the Flint Metro League Cross Country Championships held at Springfield Oaks County Park. No Fenton varsity boys senior class can make such a claim.

“It’s awesome,” Jesse said. “I’ve been here for all four years and my leaders were like Andrew Bond and Dom Dimambro, and now I’m in the role they were in (when I first started racing). They kind of paved the way for me to do this.

“We all came prepared. We executed very well. Me, Logan (Canada) and Sam (Cox) were right with each other that entire race, so that was really cool

to see. Sometimes there is much more of a gap, but we were really close this time.”

The Tigers had their entire starting five finish within the top 17 places, helping the Tigers score just 49 points. Linden was second with 63 points.

Canada, who joined the team his sophomore season, was Fenton’s top runner, earning third (16:50.4). The rest of Fenton’s scoring five runners were Jesse in fifth (16:52.1), Cox in eighth (17:08.4), Remington Stapp in 16th (17:35.2) and Josh Maier in 17th (17:37.1).

“It felt good to win that for the team and repeat the Metro League for four years in a row,” Canada said. “We came out in tough conditions and we wanted to run a smart race.”

“I’m most proud of how our guys did for various reasons,” Fenton varsity cross country coach Jesse Anderson said. “Multiple guys stepped up to get the job done at different points in the jamborees. We had Mike Crane slot in as our No. 5 in the first two jamborees, and Josh Maier came up big with an all-time best jamboree performance Wednesday.”
