Ben Muenzer celebrated his Birthday on Wednesday.
On Friday the Lake Fenton senior had another reason to celebrate.
With Lake Fenton trailing 55-54, Muenzer hit the game-winning three-pointer, giving the Blue Devils a 57-55 home victory against the Owosso Trojans.
“It felt good to get a win under our belts,” Muenzer said. “It’s been an up and down season, but I love this team and my coaches.
“The last shot wasn’t off a set play or anything. We were down by one, my teammate drove and kicked it to me in my spot in the corner and I let it fly. It felt like a good shot as soon as I shot it.”
The game marked the seventh time out of 16 games the Blue Devils have played in a contest decided by four or less points. The Blue Devils improved to 3-4 in those contests with the win.
It was a tight game throughout. The Blue Devils entered the final quarter leading 36-34, but Owosso opened the fourth quarter with a 13-6 run, giving them a 47-42 lead. The lead grew to 55-47 late, but the Blue Devils scored the game’s final eight points to earn the win.
The run started with a Kaleb Siebert hoop and continued with three converted free throws. A hoop by Francis Senter cut the Owosso lead to just 55-54. Eventually, Muenzer hit the game-winning bucket, earning the Blue Devils their fourth win of the season.
Lake Fenton’s offense was pretty consistent all night long, scoring double-digits in every quarter. Senter led the offense with 13 points. He hit two three-pointers. Turgeon had 11 points while Kaleb Siebert netted nine points. Carter Foerster ended with eight points. Cade McMillan had seven points while Muenzer finished with six points. The three-pointer was his only bucket of the second half.
Lake Fenton (4-12) returns to action when the Blue Devils travel to Goodrich for a Flint Metro League Stars Division game.
