The Holly varsity girls swim team has had their share of close meets recently.
On Sept. 12, the Bronchos lost a tough 92-88 verdict against Corunna. On Tuesday, the Bronchos defeated Swartz Creek/Flushing by a 95-85 margin.
“The Bronchos showed up to race at this meet,” Holly varsity girls swim coach Jessica Drogemuller said. “These girls have been working hard and it shows as they all continue to either beat their best times or stay right at those times.
“The meet was incredibly close and came down to the last three events. Luckily, these were three strong races.”
Lauren Costigan won the 100 backstroke by dropping her time four seconds (1:11.31). Nicole Prast took third (1:26.66). In the breaststroke, Becca Costigan (1:17.47) took first, followed by Margaret Cylkowski in second (1:25.77). The team of Jaryn Kivari, Ella Althaver, Lauren Costigan and Becca Costigan won the 400 freestyle relay as well (4:19.98).
Ella Althaver broke her record in the 100 butterfly by two seconds (1:09.91).
“Overall it was a great meet and brought plenty of excitement for the county meet in just a few days,” Drogemuller said. “Going into the county meet, this team shows a lot of promise for success.”
