The Holly varsity softball team is just two victories away from earning an outright Flint Metro League Stripes Division title.

The Bronchos put themselves in that position with two doubleheader sweeps against Swartz Creek on Monday and Thursday.

Holly won Thursday’s games by scores of 11-2 and 5-3. The Bronchos won both games on Monday by earning an 11-1 win and an 18-8 victory.

The Bronchos are 16-2 in the Flint Metro League Stripes Division with the two contests remaining against Fenton on Monday. The Linden Eagles finished the Stripes Division with a 17-3 record. If the Bronchos win one game against Fenton, Holly and Linden will tie for the division title. If the Bronchos win both games, they’ll win the championship outright. If Fenton wins both games, the Linden Eagles will be outright champions. Fenton are 13-5, but can’t earn the title even with a sweep. However, the Tigers would get some great redemption from a rival that swept them earlier this season.

During Tuesday’s first game, Holly’s Delaney Jenkinson hit a two-run home run in the Bronchos’ three-run first and the squad never trailed. Later, Jenkinson added an RBI-double in the four-run fifth. Autumn Lewis also had an RBI-double during the four-run fourth while Jenna Wiley had an RBI-single.

Rylee Parks chipped in a two-run home run in the fifth, setting up the mercy rule victory after six innings. Parks also had an RBI-single in the first. Maggie Boehm earned the victory on the mound.

In the second contest, a seven-run sixth by Holly blew the game open. The big shot was a three-run home run by Nora Kreft. The Dragons walked Jenkinson five times but it didn’t work since Boehm hit a three-run double, two RBI-singles and a two-run single after those walks. Kreft had an RBI-single in the seventh as well while Wylie had RBI-singles in the sixth and seventh innings.

Boehm went the distance on the mound in this contest as well, but needed 142 pitches to do so.
