The Holly varsity boys soccer team earned a nice victory entering district play Monday.
With a starting lineup made up of seniors, the Bronchos dominated Corunna and won an 8-0 verdict at home.
“We came out aggressive and did a great job controlling the game from the start,” Holly varsity boys soccer coach Matthew Sherrow said.
Senior Nick Rees scored the first goal just 90 seconds into the game. It remained 1-0 until the 17:45 mark of the first half when Zach Hill scored a penalty kick. Just four minutes later, Rees scored again and the Bronchos led 3-0 at half.
Holly scored five more goals in the second half with Hill scoring another penalty kick and Jase VanTassel assisting Rees’s third goal of the game. That made it 5-0.
The Bronchos (5-6-0 in the Metro) had a nice team goal for its sixth. Jacob Osborne sent a pass to Ian Loeffler who found Kyle Sherrow, and then he sent a pass to Hill who scored his third goal of the contest. Reese earned his fourth goal of the game when Sherrow sent a soft pass to him, enabling the open shot. Finally, with all the seniors on the pitch gain, Luke Wilson kicked the game-ending goal on a 25 yard free kick.
“This was a very fitting end for a hard-working great bunch of seniors that have played together for a very long time,” Matthew Sherrow said. “It could not have been scripted any better.”
