Three area middle school teams competed at the middle school division of the Greater Flint Cross Country Championships.
Holly’s Ashley Sobczynski has had a strong season, and continued it at the meet with the first-place time of 12:11.47 in the two-mile girls race. She beat the field by almost 16 seconds.
On the boys’ side, Lake Fenton’s Nolan Pinion was the area’s top performer, taking second in 11:47.77.
The Linden program did the best with the girls taking fourth and the boys fifth.
Emily McKissic led the Linden girls taking fifth (13:04.91) while Ava Farenkoph took 17th (13:51.87). The rest of Linden’s top five were Chloe Josphson in 20th (14:00.01), Grace Kenny in 21st (14:03.22) and Lauren Shaw in (15:04.21).
The Linden boys were led by Spencer Dicks who took 10th (12:11.81). The rest of Linden’s top five boys runners were Lucas Carr in 23rd (12:56.12), Ian Martin in 44th (13:37.09), Davin Meckstroth in 46th (13:37.87) and Mason Bothell in 50th (13:43.84).
Both Lake Fenton teams took eighth. The girls were led by Emerson Baker in ninth (13:23.52) followed by Macella Jenio in 45th (14:58.78), Madelyn Teffner in 46th (15:00.51), Chloe Hnilica in 59th (15:20.48) and Anna Blair in 80th (16:02.01).
The Lake Fenton boys who followed Nolan Pinion were Rowen Baker in 36th (13:15.22), Gavin Hiler in 47th (13:38.55), Nolan Luokkala in 52nd (13:50.73) and Carter Klott in 87th (14:52.08).
The Holly teams placed ninth with Zachary Brown leading the boys in 25th (13:00.15). The rest of Holly’s top five were William Parsons in 26th (13:01.90), Ethan Preston in 57th (14:00.21), Chase Valerio in 62nd (14:04.89) and Ryan Sparklin in 71st (14:14.67).
After Sobczynski, Holly’s second girl runner was Oliva Benavides in 32nd (14:31.31). The rest are Lauren Henry in 71st (15:44.40), Laina James in 83rd (16:05.85) and Jillian Hudson in 87th (16:18.85).
