Casey Lombard has had a busy first couple of months as the new athletic director for Holly Area Schools.
Lombard, who was hired as athletic director in May, has seen changes to nine different varsity coaching positions.
“We’ve been busy,” Lombard said. “In some respects there have been some sad moments because we lost some good coaches like (wrestling coach) Don Pluta and (girls basketball coach) David Hall, but this gave me the opportunity to craft and mold the staff that I will be working with for a long time. I can set the expectations and move things in the direction I’d like to see them done.”
The changes include Steven DeHart as the new varsity boys basketball coach, Ben Varner as the new varsity girls basketball coach, Matt Sherrow as the new varsity boys soccer coach, Jessica Drogemuller as the new girls swimming and diving coach, Zach Wood as the new varsity wrestling coach, Ryan Mathews as the new varsity girls golf coach, Allison Jurcak as the new varsity girls bowling coach and George Tichon as the new varsity boys bowling coach.
Also new this year is varsity football coach Dallas Lesperance. Lesperance was hired in January.
“At Holly Area Schools, athletics play a central role in providing a well-rounded 21st century education that helps prepare our Bronchos for the real world and jobs,” said Holly Area Schools Superintendent Scott Roper in a prepared statement. “I have no doubt our coaches will lead Broncho athletics well into the future and continue our record of success.”
Some of the coaches have Holly roots. Lesperance has coached within the Holly football program, as have Sharrow (boys soccer), Wood (wrestling), Jurcak (girls bowling) and Tichon (boys bowling). Mathews (girls golf) has helped coach the boys basketball and girls track teams previously.
“Our coaches will continue a tradition of providing problem-solving and other life skills our students will one day need to compete in the modern workforce,” Lombard said. “These coaches represent the best of the best in their respective athletic programs, and I am confident they will continue to help our Bronchos achieve and succeed as they plan for bright futures.”
Lombard said he likes the type of people each are.
“Every one of them are passionate and energetic about taking over,” Lombard said. “I look forward to it. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
