When volleyball district action begins next week, there will be a third installment of the Fenton-Linden rivalry.
That’s because the two area squads face off in the semifinal round of the Division 1 Davison District. Meanwhile, Lake Fenton will be hosting its own district while Holly will be at a challenging district at Lake Orion.
The Fenton-Linden match is Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Davison High School. The winner of the match will face either Grand Blanc, Lapeer or Davison in the district championship match slated for Thursday at 7 p.m.
On the other half of the bracket, Grand Blanc faces Lapeer on Monday at 7 p.m. at Davison High School. The winner of that match faces Davison in Wednesday’s other semifinal match, slated to start at about 7 p.m.
None of the schools in the district are ranked.
Co-Metro League Stripes Division champions Holly will have a much more difficult run to a championship. The Bronchos are headed to the Lake Orion District which includes a state-ranked squad and a host that is among the honorable mention teams.
Monday’s opening round is between sixth-ranked Clarkston and honorable mention squad Lake Orion.
The winner of that match faces Holly at Lake Orion Wednesday at 7 p.m. The other half of the bracket has Oxford facing Waterford Kettering in a Wednesday 5:30 p.m. battle. The two semifinal victors compete for the district championship on Thursday at Lake Orion High School at 7 p.m.
Lake Fenton hosts the winner of Monday’s North Branch-Ortonville Brandon winner Wednesday at 7 p.m. The other semifinal begins at 5:30 on Wednesday and pits Powers Catholic against Goodrich. The two semifinal victors will play in Thursday’s district championship game at Lake Fenton High School at 6 p.m.
