Holly — It’s been a quest for the Linden varsity boys soccer team all season long.

The Eagles have been looking for more people who can score goals. Linden may have found one in its road contest at Holly.

Freshman call-up Aidan Teeter scored two goals in the Eagles’ 4-0 victory against the Holly Bronchos on Monday. It was Teeter’s second game on varsity this season.

“It feels pretty good,” Teeter said. “I am happy to be with this team.”

The Eagles began the contest on fire, creating many early scoring chances, but not really putting those chances on net. As the half moved on, the Bronchos were gaining their footing and it seemed the team was becoming more of an even affair between two tri-county foes.

However, in the final 10 minutes of the first half, the Eagles — and Teeter — got on fire once again.

The first goal came on a shot Teeter took that hit the post and bounced right back to him. He put the rebound in and the Eagles led 1-0 with 8:10 left in the first half. His second goal came with 5:45 remaining until halftime.

“I just saw the ball running, so I saw the chance and I toe balled it in and got the post,” Teeter said about the first goal. “(The second one) my teammate bumped it back to me, I saw the opportunity, and I was pretty happy when I got the goal.”

The half ended with a lead pass to Devin Nowak who scored from about five yards out with 3:40 left. What was a competitive middle 20 minutes between the teams in the first half, suddenly became a 3-0 Linden blowout at halftime.

“(Teeter’s) hustle is what is going to give him the minutes,” Linden varsity boys soccer coach Kevin Fiebernitz said. “And it’s something we’ve been lacking a bit, being aggressive. And he had a couple of nice opportunities early on and he polished them off which was good. I think it sparked a few other guys too. I told them, I don’t care who it is — a freshman, a senior or whoever. Whoever is going to go out and get the job done, I don’t care.”

“We started the game out on a strong note, holding possession well at certain points in the game and also defending well throughout the first half,” Holly varsity boys soccer coach Darius Reynolds said. “(Once Linden scored) we struggled to find our footing after that, as we just couldn’t string together any chances.”

Linden dominated the second half, but that only resulted in one goal. It came when Garrett Holmquist sent a pass to Jason Shirshun who then hit the farside post on an extreme angle for the final goal with 18:51 left in the second half.

The Eagles ended up with a 28-10 shot edge, with a 14-7 shot on frame edge.  Prior to Linden’s first goal the Eagles’ shot lead was just 6-4.

In net, Linden’s Austin Huyck was strong in goal, making seven saves and earning the clean sheet. Huyck is playing his first season in net for Linden.

“He’s learning on fire,” Fiebernitz said. “He’s been a blessing. I don’t know what we would’ve done without him, and he’s gaining confidence.”
