The Bath Invitational had three area cross country programs compete at the event and the Linden varsity boys squad had the most reason for bragging rights.
The Eagles won the Boys Class 2 event with just 40 points, 62 less than second-place Capital Homeschool. Lake Fenton placed third out of the 13 team field with 127 points. The Linden girls placed eighth in the 13-team Girls Class 2 field while Lake Fenton took ninth. Metro League foe Goodrich won the race while Owosso was third.
In Class 1 action, the Holly girls took eighth out of 11 teams while the boys took ninth.
Linden’s victorious men had their top five finish within the top 15 positions. River Meckstroth won the race (16:25.95), while Kyle Eberhard (16:34.31) was second. Lake Fenton’s Nolan Pinion placed seventh (17:15.38) earning the Blue Devils’ sole top-10 finisher, while Linden’s Clayton Akerman was 10th (17:29.84). Linden’s other team scorers were Hayden Bradfield in 12th (17:34.06) and Ryan Blackwood in 15th (17:49.41).
The rest of Lake Fenton’s scoring five were Colton Dietrich in 20th (18:07.76), Matt Fletcher in 25th (18:15.4), Cooper Hnilica in 36th (18:53.64) and Jamison Chenett in 39th (18:57.43).
In the women’s class 2 race, Lake Fenton’s Marielle Hatfield was the area’s top finisher, taking 10th in 20:55.70. Her teammate Claire Hunt wasn’t too far behind in 12th (21:05.56).
Linden had four runners placing from 20th to 36th. They were Colleen Blackwood in 20th (21:28.24), Ava Fahrenkoph in 24th (21:42.09), Alyson Kelly in 30th (22:20.38) and Stellah Strauss in 36th (22:32.97). The other scoring runner for Linden was Reagan Brooks in 59th (23:43.09).
Lake Fenton’s other scoring runners were Evelyn Riley in 45th (23:13.26), Kaitlyn Hatfield in 54th (23:31.48), and Marcella Jenio in 66th (24:04.11).
Every Holly girl to compete finished with a personal record. Freshman Ashley Sobczynski continued her strong start to her varsity career with a second-place time of 18:48, the second fastest time in Holly history. She was followed by Jessica Booher (22:59), Alison Rockafellow (24:21.4), Abrielle Hoffman (24:21.6) and Hannah Lee (25:09).
The Holly boys were paced by Mason Rosa in 15th (17:01). The rest of the scoring five were Zach Rockafellow in 23rd (17:10), Ben Baxter in 47th (18:04), Grant Hoffman in 54th (18:24) and Adam Booher in 68th (18:46).
