Two tri-county prep golfers saw their prep athletic careers end at state tournaments on Saturday.
Lake Fenton senior Avery Schaal finished in 21st place at the Division 2 Boys Golf State Championships at Battle Creek’s Bedford Valley Country Club while Fenton senior Dylan Davidson finished tied for 67th at the D1 event at East Lansing’s Forest Akers West Golf Course.
Schaal opened his state tournament with a 77 on Friday, placing him further down the field entering Saturday’s final round. He responded with a 72. Only five golfers posted a stronger score than that, enabling Schaal to finish 21st with a 73-77-150 36-hole score.
Davidson had one of his toughest tournaments of the season, posting an 84 during Saturday’s opening round at Forest Akers West. He followed that round with a better 81 on the second day for an 80-82-162 score.
Both golfers were among the elite golfers in the Flint Metro League this spring with both collecting an equal number of points (201) to earn first-team league spots.
