Christopher Swanson (incumbent) DEMOCRAT
Residency: Fenton Township
Occupation: Genesee County Sheriff
I’ve been honored to serve the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office for the past 27 years, working in a multitude of roles from corrections, patrol, paramedic, investigations, over a decade as undersheriff, and now as your sheriff. My focus has always been protecting our most vulnerable. Combating elder abuse, financial exploitation of seniors, animal cruelty, opioid addiction among our youth, and sex trafficking here in Genesee County are top action items. The G.H.O.S.T. task force, which identifies and apprehends child predators who target children online, is just one example of our proactive approach. Above all else, a sheriff’s office must be a community partner, listening to the needs and concerns of residents, and giving each person we interact with the dignity and respect they have earned.
Occupation: reserve police officer, and medically retired from the U.S. Army. I am an author, a firearms instructor.
If elected, I plan better training for deputies; enrolling in the FBI’s Use of Force Reporting Study; addressing violent crime; putting more sheriff’s deputies on the streets by streamlining and reorganizing; obtaining several trained therapy dogs; developing a standardized case file format; offering CPR training to inmates in the county jail (CPR saves lives) and adhering to Sir Robert Peel’s Nine Principles of Policing. I don’t like no-knock warrants. I have done dynamic entries against some of the most violent people on earth. I know the dangers, risks, and process better than most.
