Linden — Two Linden firefighters were honored Monday, Jan. 23 during the Linden City Council meeting.
Fire Chief Brian Will presented awards to Firefighter Roger Card and Assistant Fire Chief Chris Fairbanks.
“I would like to thank all the dedicated members of the fire department for their continued hard work to train monthly, show up for calls day and night and also donate time to give back to the community at special events as well,” Will said. “I would also like to thank the city council and the city manager for their support. You both provide us the tools to do our jobs safely and efficiently to handle the task at hand throughout the year.”
The Firefighter of the Year award went to Card for his outstanding performance. The recipient for this award is determined by a vote of the Linden firefighters.
Card has been an active member of the department since 1985.
“His participation with our department is very valuable, responding to 70% of our calls, day and night,” Will said. “He brings his experience, great attitude and always works well with everyone. Roger is also responsible for bringing three generations to our membership.”
Card’s son, Anthony Card, and his grandson, Lucas Card, also are a part of the department.
“I want to thank you Roger for all your service. Appreciate the efforts,” he said.
Fairbanks received the Chief’s Award. He has been a member of the department since 1992. Will said he brings his dedicated work ethic and experience when responding to calls, maintaining equipment and apparatus and while conducting training sessions.
Fairbanks is president of the Genesee County Fire Chiefs Association.
“Over the years, he has seen the changes in our fire service and has been willing to adapt and continue his service to our community but still uses his past experiences to benefit our department. I’d like to thank Assistant Chief Chris Fairbanks for his continued dedication to our department and his efforts he gives us and our citizens every day.”
