Local fire departments responded to a fire at the 400 building of Dauner Haus apartments on Tuesday, March 14 around 7:40 a.m.
Fenton Fire Chief Bob Cairnduff said a caller reported a fire in the bathroom in the main lobby. When first responders arrived, there was heavy smoke and a small fire in the men’s bathroom on the first floor. The fire department and Dauner Haus staff assisted residents out of the building.
“We were able to extinguish the fire quickly and there was only damage to the one bathroom. We were able to clear the smoke out of the building using our positive pressure ventilation fans. We were able to let all residents back into the building and their apartments about 90 minutes later,” Cairnduff said.
The Fenton Fire Department was assisted by the Fenton Township and Linden fire departments. Medstar had two ambulances on scene. Cairnduff said they requested a bus from Fenton schools for the residents to use to rest while first responders handled the incident.
There were no injuries to fire personnel or residents.
“At this time the fire is under investigation by the Fenton Police Department. The fire is suspicious in nature,” he said.
