The former Tyrone Township hall is going to be the new home of Send the Light, a non-denominational Bible-based Christian church.
This comes after the Tyrone Township Board of Trustees approved a special land use request permit July 6, which was recommended by the township’s planning commission.
John Martin, who has lived in Tyrone Township for more than 30 years, purchased the building in February for $305,000. Martin also owns Trusted Tool Mfg., on Old U.S. 23 in Tyrone Township.
In Martin’s written request to the Tyrone Township Planning Commission, he said the church would fit nicely with the environment of the community. Sunday School would be held weekly and there is plenty of parking for church services.
It is the opinion of the Planning Commission that the intensity of use will not significantly increase, and church services would be similar in attendance to some of the association and other special events which were held infrequently at the prior hall.
Available parking complies with the township’s ordinance requirements.
A sales contract signed Feb. 20 includes use and disposition options for the historic township hall. Martin indicated that the site would not be physically altered from an exterior point of view.
