At 2:10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, a Fenton police officer on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle behind stores under construction on Silver Parkway. The car was traveling slowly with no lights on. Officer Julie Bemus initiated a traffic stop to see what the driver was doing. As Bemus approached, the vehicle sped away, traveling southbound on Silver Parkway, east on Owen Road and north on U.S. 23. Bemus followed. The car used an emergency turn-around on U.S. 23 and started traveling southbound on the highway, exiting at North Road. The driver failed to navigate the tight curve of the exit and crashed his car. The driver exited the car and fled on foot. Bemus followed on foot and apprehended the man, later identified as a 27-year-old Whitmore Lake resident. The man was not injured in this crash. Lt. Jeff Cross said police will be seeking warrants for fleeing and eluding police, possession of methamphetamine and operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs. Genesee County sheriff’s deputies and Linden police assisted.
