Driver runs red light, police recover pistol in vehicle

At 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, a Fenton police officer on patrol observed a vehicle exit from southbound U.S. 23 onto Owen Road. The vehicle drove through a red light in front of the officer. A traffic stop was initiated. The driver told the officer that he had a firearm in his vehicle but did not have a concealed pistol license (CPL). A search of the vehicle revealed a pistol on the center console. The man, a 27-year-old Flint resident, was arrested on the CPL violation and lodged at the Genesee County Jail pending his arraignment. A passenger in the vehicle was not arrested.
