On Thursday, Jan. 30, at 3:23 p.m. Holly police officers were dispatched to a private school on Academy Street to assist Michigan State Police. The original caller stated they heard what sounded like gunfire near the school building but did not see anyone. Arriving officers were able to secure the building and grounds and later determined the gunfire was from two persons who were lawfully target practicing in a lawful distance from the school area. Holly police officers worked with other officers to provide students security while exiting the building to meet with parents. Assisting officers, deputies and troopers remained on the school grounds until children were evacuated and staff were briefed.
