Michael “Mike” Hurd – age 61, of West Lafayette, IN, formerly of Fenton, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. He was born on July 7, 1957 in Flint, to Dr. Clayton and June (Wetmore) Hurd. A memorial service will be held at the Indiana Veteran’s Home in Lafayette, IN where Mike spent his last several years and met many wonderful friends, with burial to be held at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, at a future date.

Mike enlisted in the United States Army in 1975 and was stationed at Fort Rucker, AL as an ATC Radar Controller, before receiving an honorable discharge. Mike was happiest when on the golf course and jumped at every opportunity to play the sport he loved with his children, grandchildren, and close friends. He was a lifelong Michigan State University Spartan fan and had his prosthetic leg printed in green and white in honor of his team. Vernors soda and Koegel hotdogs were among Mike’s favorites and he had perfected a delicious fudge recipe. Mike is survived by his five children, Stacy (Andy) Daul, Ashley (Nick) Adkins, Lindsey Hurd, Kaitlin Hurd, and Bret Hurd, his eight grandchildren, Sheridan, Jaxson, Addisyn, Logan, Eli, Brayden, Jake, and Rex, and two sisters Andrea Nichols and Peggy Schupbach. He is preceded in death by his brother, John Hurd and parents. Michael’s children ask that those desiring make contributions to Snuggle Sacks - Homeless Survival Kits or the Indiana Veteran’s Home in memory of Michael.
