She will be remembered for her laughter and joy of being surrounded by family and friends. Mary was born on June 22, 1926, in Detroit. She attended Mt. Morris High School, graduating in 1944. Always wanting to be a nurse, she began her nurses training that same year, age 17, with the United States Cadet Nurse Corp in Chicago, IL, where she made many lifelong friends. Mary loved flying and earned her private pilot’s license in 1970 joining the 99s, the International Organization of Women Pilots, soon after. Although she never did, her dream was to fly in the Powder Puff Derby, an all women’s air race across the United States.
