Gerald Hugh "Jerry" Sprague

Gerald Hugh “Jerry” Sprague - age 87, of Holly, died Tuesday, September 8, 2020. He was born in Flint on August 27, 1933, the son of Hugh and Ina (Cruthers) Sprague. He served from 1953 to 1955 in the U.S. Army. He married Marla Jean Beers on June 26, 1954 in Swartz Creek. He was employed 31 years at General Motors Fisher Body Grand Blanc and was a member of U.A.W. Local 1292. He retired in 1987. He liked to fish, hunt, and travel and spent 18 winters in Mission, TX. He also was a volunteer for the Holly Ambulance for nearly 10 years, was a member of the NRA for 25 years, a member of Holly American Legion Post #149, and a member of the Elks for 13 years. Surviving are his wife, Marla; son, Robert of Swartz Creek; Daughter, Sandi (Bill) Balkwill of Holly; four grandchildren, Jason (Sabrina), Sarah (Napolen), Erika (John Morrish), and Tiffany (Sam LaPlant); nine great-grandchildren, Ares, Aloyla, Abel, Nina Ann, Jackson, Michelle, Nadia, Olivia, and Quincey; brother, Ellsworth and wife, Vivian of Port Charlotte, FL; one niece, Janet (Bill); and his dog Tilly Mae. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, and sister-in-law. Visitation will be from 2 - 6 PM Thursday, September 10, 2020, with social distancing at the Dryer Funeral Home, Holly. Military honors and graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Memorial donations may be made to the Leader Dogs for the Blind.
