Donald “Dean” Moore – age 84, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Genesys Hospital. There will be no visitation or service, but family and friends are welcome to the interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 12:30 PM. Dean was born in Goodrich, MI on March 17, 1934 the son of Donald and Beulah (VanGorder) Moore. He lived in Fenton most of his life, graduating from FHS in 1952 before going to Michigan State on a football scholarship. He had begun his studies in Physical Education when he was drafted into the Army. He married his high school sweetheart Frances (Orcutt) before being stationed at Fort Monroe, VA. After discharge from the Army, he returned to Michigan State to complete his B.A. Degree before going on to teach, coach and become the athletic director at Battle Creek Pennfield. Dean returned to Fenton in 1963 where he and Frances started their own business, Moore Insurance Agency, which is now run by his son, Michael and his grandson, Derek Moore. In the 1970’s, he teamed up with his longtime friend Richard Rockman, Sr. to build the Fenton Mini Malls on North Leroy St. where Moore Insurance Agency is still located today. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make contributions may do so to the First Presbyterian Church of Fenton where he and Frances attended regularly when they weren’t enjoying the Florida sunshine. Surviving are his wife, Frances; sons, Patrick (Julie) Moore of Holt, Michael Moore of Grand Blanc; daughters, Mary Moore of Linden, Deanne Moore of Lansing; grandson, Derek Moore of Grand Blanc, and great- grandsons Isaiah, Camron and Gabriel Moore. Dean was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward Moore. The family extends a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Genesys ICU for their excellent care and compassion.
