Barbara “Barb” Ann (Gibson) (Fortin) Forton

Barbara “Barb” Ann (Gibson) (Fortin) Forton - age 83, of Fenton, Celebrated a joyous homecoming with our Lord on Sunday, January 2, 2022, after a five week courageous battle with Covid 19. Barbara was born January 23, 1938 in Poughkeepsie Arkansas to William Clyde Gibson and Gladys (Goodman) Gibson. Barb and her family moved to Plymouth, in the early 1940’s, then to Flint, in 1955. Barbara graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1956.  She married Ronald E. Fortin in 1957. They had two children,  Anthony “Tony” (Peggy) Fortin of Fenton,  and Tami  (Joe) Bastien  of Clay. She enjoyed her seven grandchildren, Ryan (Nicole)  Schmidt, Nicholas (Julie) Schmidt, Natalie (Ray) Cataline, Kyle (Rachel) Fortin, Katelyn Fortin, Abigail Bastien, and Amanda Bastien. Five great-grandchildren, Christian Schmidt, Madelynn Schmidt, Connor Schmidt, Everett Fortin, and Elizabeth Schmidt.  She leaves many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews to cherish her memory. Barbara retired from the State Bank of Linden after 25 plus years of service. She was always a smiling face at the drive through banking window and met her second husband there. Barbara married Jack Forton in 1988 (Hence the name difference of one letter in her last name). Barb enjoyed spending time with her family, music, dancing, gardening, camping, fishing, boating, good food (favorites fried fish and chicken livers), margaritas, Casino trips, bingo and other games, General Hospital and Hallmark movies.  Barb was always very generous, happy, upbeat,  and smiling.  She always had loving pet names for everyone, including, “man,” “sweetheart,” “babe,” “chickie,” “honey,” etc.  Barb was preceded in death by husbands, Ronald Fortin, Jack Forton; mother and father; brother, William Randolph Gibson (Randy); many aunts; uncles and cousins; and her beloved Schitzu of 15 years, Snickers. Special thanks to the ICU staff at McLaren Flint, The Medical team, and Lockwood of Fenton. Contributions may be made on her behalf to St. Jude’s, American Diabetes Association, or to Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Visitation on Thursday January 6, from 5 – 8 PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton and visitation Friday from 9 AM  until the time of the service. A Celebration of Barbara’s life service will be Friday, January 7, at 10 AM at the Funeral Home.
