He would be very pleased to “acquaintance immediately.” These are the two words that landed Brayden Piper the 1st place trophy in the Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee 2020 competition in Ann Arbor last weekend. Brayden represented Lake Fenton schools in the fourth through sixth grade division competition and now will progress to the third level — state competition in Essexville on March 7.
The bee in Ann Arbor was the second round and there were a total of 14 competitors for Brayden’s bracket. There were about 75 competitors in the first round in Fenton. Brayden made the final win over the runner-up with his winning word, “immediately.” He also had to spell the word before the girl before him missed — “acquaintance.”
