Neil Bruce Billington, 72, of Holly was arraigned Saturday, Feb. 1 in Oakland County 52-2 District Court on one count of malicious use of telecommunication device. He was released on $25,000 personal bond, pending further court hearings.
Billington was arrested for allegedly making threats to Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson last week.
On Wednesday, Jan 29, Michigan State Police Metro North Post was notified that a male individual had made threats against Benson. The investigation revealed that the suspect, Billington, made threats on her voicemail and then spoke to a person in her office and made similar threats.
After further investigation and evidence collection, a search warrant was executed at Billington’s home and he was taken into custody without incident. Weapons and evidence were seized from his home.
Benson tweeted in the afternoon of Thursday, Jan. 30, that she was “grateful to MSP Metro Detroit and the MSP for their swift response and action. Threats against public officials have no place in our society.”
