Michael Grimes, formerly of Fenton Township, was sentenced Tuesday, Feb.
18 to two years and four months in federal prison, on conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
According to federal court records Grimes is a former United Auto Workers official who was convicted of receiving more than $1.5 million in bribes and kickbacks from a union vendor, including $10,000 worth of cosmetic surgery for a relative.
Grimes and his wife, Karen, are residents of Fort Myers, Florida but owned a home on Enid Boulevard on Lake Fenton for several years until they sold in 2016.
Grimes pleaded guilty in September 2019 to wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering. Though sentencing guidelines call for almost five years in prison, prosecutors recommended a two-year sentence because Grimes cooperated with an ongoing investigation, according to court records.
