Caroline Weaver, a senior at Fenton High School, qualified as a semifinalist in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. She is one of 16,000 high school seniors who qualified as a semifinalist and will continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships to be offered next spring.

Weaver will have to complete the next application by Oct. 7.

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. (NMSC), which announced the semifinalists, is a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance. It was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual scholarship program.

National Merit Scholarship winners of 2021 will be announced beginning in April 2021. These recipients will join more than 353,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
