A 24-year-old Fenton man was lodged in the Genesee County Jail pending authorization of arrest warrants and arraignment following an incident early Monday morning in Fenton.
Lt. Jeff Cross said the police department responded to a home on N. West Street at 1:43 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 2 on a report of an altercation inside the home and possible structure fire.
Responding police officers could hear the smoke alarm blaring and made contact with the 24-year-old resident who also saw and smelled smoke. The man, as well as a female and child, were evacuated from that portion of the residence. Tenants in the other portion of the residence were also evacuated as a precaution.
Cross said the officer learned there was a small fire in the kitchen and quickly grabbed the fire extinguisher from the patrol vehicle to put out the fire prior to the arrival of the Fenton Fire Department.
Cross said it appeared that the fire was intentionally set. The 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault and battery and arson. After being processed at the Fenton Police Department, he was transported to the Genesee County Jail awaiting authorization of arrest warrants.
There were no injuries reported.
