Eric Szczepanski, who serves on both the Fenton Community Orchestra (FCO) and Fenton Arts & Cultural Commission (FACC) boards, announced that both organizations were recently awarded grants from the Greater Flint Arts Council (GFAC).

The FACC received two grants from the GFAC through the Share Art Genesee Program. The Commission received a matching grant of $14,400 for programming and a $4,500 grant for cultural planning. These funds will support community-wide art and cultural planning and programs.

The Commission will use cultural planning grant to sponsor

an Art & Cultural Charrette. The public Charrette session will seek input from the community regarding specific art and cultural programs and opportunities that would enhance the quality of life in the community. The Programs and Services Matching Grant will be used to fund art and cultural programming in the community.

“We intend to expand our inaugural summer arts camps program for children throughout June, July and August,” said Chairman Patricia Lockwood, mayor pro tem for the city of Fenton. “The youth program for ages 7-16 will encompass Undercover Artists Kids Camp, Art and Design Camp, and Plein Air Watercolor Workshop that is conducted by renowned artist Denise Willing-Booher. In addition, we are planning a book author series with local, regional and nationally recognized writers to encourage, engage and support community readership and writing.”

Share Art Genesee Program

The Share Art Genesee Program was established to provide grants to build the capacity of local arts organizations in reaching their potential in transforming communities into vibrant, inclusive destinations with a unique sense of place.

The program is funded in whole by Genesee County Arts Education and Cultural Enrichment Millage, approved by the Genesee County voters in August 2018.

Greg Fiedler, president and CEO of GFAC said, “We thank the voters of Genesee County for recognizing the important role the arts play in the lives of all those who reside here and approving this grant program to support arts education, and cultural enrichment programs at nonprofit and governmental arts and cultural institutions in Genesee County.”
