A 50-year-old Grand Blanc man was killed in an automobile crash Tuesday, Oct. 12 in Tyrone Township. His name has not been released.
Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murphy reported that at 5:50 p.m., deputies with the sheriff’s office were dispatched to a single vehicle fatal crash on Rohn Road, west of Tipsico Lake Road in Tyrone Township.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 53-year-old Grand Blanc man was driving a 2007 GMC Savana van eastbound on Rohn Road when he crossed over the westbound lane and left the roadway to the north. Once the van left the roadway, it struck a large tree.
The driver of the van was transported by Livingston County EMS to Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger in the van, a 50-year-old male Grand Blanc man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours during the investigation and cleanup.
Murphy reported that drug use appears to be a factor in this case; speed does not. The driver of the van was wearing his seatbelt and the passenger was unbelted. This crash remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Fenton Fire Department and Livingston County EMS.
