On Saturday, June 18, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division was alerted to a pontoon possibly being driven by an intoxicated man on Lake Fenton. He was later identified as a 27-year-old Walled Lake resident.

Sheriff Chris Swanson said it was reported that the pontoon crashed into a dock at the north end of Lake Fenton, causing damage to the dock and the pontoon.

The sheriff’s marine patrol made contact with the driver of the pontoon and escorted the pontoon to shore. Field sobriety tests revealed that the driver was intoxicated. He was arrested for operating a boat while intoxicated, malicious destruction of property and was transported to the Genesee County Jail for arraignment.

Swanson said, “It was the first warm weekend of the season. Thankfully, this was just property damage. It could have been fatal.” He said a female on the pontoon was tossed around a little in the pontoon when it crashed but she did not sustain serious injury.
