Every fall, the Fenton & Linden Regional Chamber of Commerce hosts an awards dinner and silent auction to celebrate businesses and all who have contributed to the community. Money raised from the silent auction goes towards college scholarships for Lake Fenton, Fenton and Linden graduates.

Similar to every other big event this year, the Chamber was forced to alter its celebration plans with a remote event. For this year, the renamed it Chamber Awards Week.

Awards were presented remotely by Ed Koledo, chairman of the Chamber Board, and Shelly Day, executive director of the Chamber.

The Ambassador of the Year recipient is Katelyn Couturier of Lasco Ford. Will Stiverson of the Chamber and chair of the Ambassadors made the announcement. He said Couturier has stepped up to help during these challenging times and always volunteers.

Couturier said it was an honor to receive this award and she thoroughly enjoys being out meeting people in the community.

The Entrepreneur Award went to Don Stilson of Rock Foundations. Day said this award is for businesses that have been in business for fewer than 10 years. Stilson was a significant sponsor of the Gus Macker basketball tournament and St. John’s Applefest.

Stilson said, “We’re here to stay.” He thanked the builders and suppliers and everyone with the Chamber for selecting his business.

The Enterprise Award went to Patrik Welty of Legacy Realty Professionals. The Enterprise Award is for businesses that have been in business for more than 10 years. Day said Welty and his team have contributed significantly to the community.

Welty said it’s an honor to be recognized. “I’ve been very blessed by this Chamber,” he said.

The Community Service Award went to Scott Grossmeyer. Day said for the first time ever, this award was given twice to the same individual. She said Grossmeyer promotes the community everywhere he goes and that he has made significant contributions over the years.

“We received numerous testimonials on this man,” Day said.

Grossmeyer said winning this award twice means so much to him. He also congratulated the Chamber on its centennial celebration. “They do a wonderful job on promoting this community,” he said. “I believe it’s a duty to give back to the community.”

Typically, the 2020 Educator of the Year Award for each of the three local school districts is awarded to one teacher. However, this year has been anything but typical. Day said the 2020 Educator of the Year Award at Linden Community Schools, Fenton Area Public Schools and Lake Fenton Community Schools is being awarded to each of the entire school districts.

Day, as well as the superintendents, said all of the staff members have gone above and beyond to provide the best education to students during these challenging times.

Two businesses are recipients of the 100 Year Legacy Award. Medawar Jewelers and Bill Carr signs are the 2020 recipients. Day said Medawar Jewelers is known for its expert repairs and unique creations. Jim Nestroy of Bill Carr signs said they are honored to be coming up on their 102nd year in business. He thanked their great customer base and their great team.

The 2020 Chamber Foundation Scholarship recipients are Nathan Eversole from Fenton High School, Salina Mueller from Lake Fenton High School and Sheridan Goss from Linden High School. The three graduates are attending college pursuing their careers.

All of these virtual presentations are available for viewing on the Fenton & Linden Regional Chamber of Commerce’s YouTube page.
