Fr. Gabriel, priest of St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church, blesses pets brought to the third annual Community Pet Blessing as well as those being cared for at Fenton’s Adopt-A-Pet.

On Tuesday, Sept. 10, Fenton’s Adopt-A-Pet and St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church held Fenton’s third annual Community Pet Blessing.  Families from all over Genesee and Livingston counties brought their “furry friends” for the gathering, which was highlighted by a prayer service in honor of St. Mammas, one of the Patron Saints of Animals.

“This has been our third year in partnering with Fenton’s Adopt-A-Pet for this blessing, and every year it seems to grow. I am always grateful for the opportunity to gather together as a community to not only offer worship and praise to our Lord, but also to give thanks and to bless the animals that aid us through the difficulties of life,” said Fr. Gabriel, priest of St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church.

After the general blessing outside, Gabriel proceeded to bless the animals inside of the Adopt-A-Pet building that were either recovering from illnesses or were still awaiting adoption.  All those in attendance received a special gift, which included a cross collar tag, an icon of St. Mammas with a prayer for pets, and a special treat for the dogs.
