A 21-year-old Fenton woman was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and reckless driving following an incident at the roundabout at Torrey and North roads Saturday, Nov. 23.
Lt. Jeff Cross said officer Julie Bemus was finishing a crash investigation in The Barn parking lot at 2:27 p.m. That crash had occurred on U.S. 23, however, and the vehicles involved pulled into the parking lot for safety reasons.
While finishing her investigation, Bemus heard a vehicle squeal its tires as it drove quickly around the roundabout. The noise caught the officer’s attention and she began watching the vehicle drive around the roundabout several times. The car eventually exited the roundabout onto North Road and drove up over a curb.
Bemus followed the car to initiate a traffic stop. The driver of the car eventually pulled over on a side street when her car became inoperable with transmission trouble.
Bemus made contact with the female driver who claimed she took a drive after becoming upset over an argument. Bemus determined the woman was intoxicated and arrested her for OWI and reckless driving. There were no injuries reported and there was no damage done to the roundabout.
A security camera at Smitty’s Exit 80 caught the woman’s driving in the roundabout.
