Having a Leap Year baby is rare, but the Hurley Mother-Baby Units always go above and beyond for local families. This year, Mother-Baby welcomed 12 Leap Year babies to Mid-Michigan — nine boys and three girls. The first baby to be born on this Leap Day was Heavenly Gilbert, born at 1:31a.m., weighing 7.1 pounds and 20½ inches long. This is the fourth daughter for parents Justin and Arianna Gilbert of Mt. Morris. Hurley Mother-Baby works hard every day to make sure each family’s birth is special. They play a part in 3,000 births a year. As a blue Distinction Center for Maternity Care, Hurley has the area’s highest level of obstetric and gynecological services.
