THE REAL BEAUTY of Christmas for children is that for the rest of their life they can look back at the family traditions, the get-togethers, the anticipation and the memories of all of it. Those indelible, lasting memories are what helps make a family and keep them together over the long haul.

***

IT’S THE SEASON of giving, but Washington politicians already make our ‘giving decisions’ for us. I resent them confiscating my hard-earned income to give it to people who could easily get a job and provide for themselves. Despite that, I still give to worthy charities such as the Salvation Army. Merry Christmas to all.

***

I WISH SOMEONE had told me when I was young that when you stop believing in Santa Claus is when you start getting clothes for Christmas.

***

ON THE SAME day Shapiro is sentenced to 11 months of probation, he announced he wants to be a state representative. Seriously, get help.

***

YOUR DAUGHTER HAD an abortion because it was her choice to do so.

***

AUTOMATION WILL NEVER replace human workers. Just look at seniors trying to use self-checkouts at the grocery store. They always get confused and need help.

***

THANK YOU FOR our new dog park. We’ve used it daily since it opened. Please support the park by picking up your dog’s droppings. There are a number of dog owners who aren’t quite yet in tune with park etiquette.

***

WHAT A PLEASURE to watch a football game, where no over-paid player takes a knee. Drive on, Army and Navy.

***

REAGAN RAISED MORE taxes than he lowered. He also tripled the national debt. He also sold guns to Iran, which was prohibited at the time.

***

TO THE COMMENTER about Jesus who thinks Democrats are the ones that help the poor and sick, feed the hungry, love thy neighbor. Look around next time you are at the soup kitchen, fundraiser and every charity event, you might be surprised where you find the spirit of Jesus living.

***

TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLARS seems a bit steep to pay an out-of-state artist for a chunk of rock in front of the library. Cost breakdown please and, oh yeah, a few bids ahead of time would be nice.

***

TO THE WOMAN who is sad that her daughter had an abortion — you need to stop dwelling on it. There are lots of sad and abused kids and animals in the world that could use your love and affection if you indeed have a surplus.

***

REPUBLICAN BUSINESS OWNERS also use JFK’s ‘Ask not...’ quote backwards, asking for everything they can get from our country. Fenton’s Streetscape project is an example.

***

TO EVEN SUGGEST that Jesus would be a part of any political party is just plain foolish. I do not know of any Christian conservative, including Trump, that neglects any of the things that you mention. So, who is on the wrong track?

***

WOW — UM FOOTBALL fans are excited. They should be. It is not often that a team finishes sixth in its conference and gets to play on NYD, especially against a weak, unranked South Carolina team. Bought your way in, again.

***

THE CHRISTMAS LIGHT display at the home on Ponchartrain is spectacular. Love that you can tune in your car radio to Christmas music programmed with the lights. Fantastic.

***

WHAT FENTON NEEDS is an Aldi grocery store.

***

READ WITH INTEREST Fenton laws that residents may be breaking. Would be wonderful if Fenton Township had similar laws so many residents would have to remove old (not driven) cars, boats and junk from yards.

***

LINDEN’S MAIN STREET should be patched. The $100,000 or more it would take to redo it would be better spent on painting and repairing the old Linden Mill Building. It’s been neglected by the council. Heritage matters.

***

WANT A GOOD book? Can’t wait to turn the pages? Try ‘The Book of Judges.’

***

NO MORE CONDOS please, until roads and sewers are capable of handling all these new people.

***

HOW MANY PEOPLE are aware another building is going up next to Fenton United Methodist Church? When will it stop? And where will we park?

***

READ THE BIBLE. Jesus was not in favor of abortion. The Bible clearly states, ‘lazy hands, empty pantry.’

***

IT’S UNFORTUNATE THAT people feel they have to take a bath in perfumes. There are scores of people that are highly allergic to the smell. Please be considerate of the people around you. Thank you.

***

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO one and all.

***

PLEASE REPAIR WEST Rolston Road. It’s been bad for the six years I have lived in Shiawassee Shores. Also, repave in front of the post office.

***

OPIOIDS DON’T KILL people, people kill people. See how silly that sounds?

***

THE LIGHTS TO music Christmas show in Wyndham Estates is up again. We watched in amazement. This is worth checking out.

***

TO THE FOOL who thinks using your turn signal is only a courtesy. Using your turn signal is literally written in our laws. Someone take away this guy’s license.

***

I DON’T KNOW what you’re trying to tell me for the reason to putting the fence up at the Argentine dam. In the 50 years that I have lived here, I have not seen or heard of anyone going over that dam.

***

JESUS A DEMOCRAT? That is the most inane thing I have ever heard.

***

ON THIS DAY, the 7th of December, I’m remembering 500 to 650 Americans who died during their platoon death march during World War II. Regardless of what President Trump claims, you’re heroes.
