HEY, WHAT IS wrong with an ice skating rink? I can’t understand this. Would Fenton rather have gang members blowing up their cities and killing all their innocent children, or would they rather have their kids having fun? You people disgust me.

•••

SOCIAL SECURITY IS not an entitlement. It is a saving’s account I paid into for over 40 years. There is not a politician who should have anything to say something about that, they don’t even pay into.

•••

CONCERNING THE LINDEN High School band director Hot line. Somebody needs to teach that man how to treat other people with respect. The way he treats those kids on the field is reprehensible. He needs to learn manners.

•••

I CANNOT UNDERSTAND how MSNBC and CNN can get sponsors for some of their programs. Especially the ones in the evening. Look at what happened to Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh.

•••

CAL THOMAS SOUNDS like he would be a good addition to the Taliban and other such thinkers.

•••

COME ON GENESEE County give me a break with this putting tar down and putting gravel on top of it. I guess all you have to do is live on a road where a commissioner lives to get your road paved like Tony Brown.

•••

CLEMENS SHOULD FIX his mistake, but not from a council seat. Leaving water/sewer funds short, bonds unfunded and the village wrapped in costly lawsuits, depleting the general fund accounts for a large portion of the ‘abysmal finances.’ We want leadership, not someone to yell at residents like a dictator.

•••

PLEASE LEAVE THE rest of the fallen Willow tree on Milford Road. It wants to keep growing, and I’d love to see what it does. Please?

•••

WOULD SOMEONE TELL the people on Lake Braemar in Rose Township that the Fourth of July fireworks were seven weeks ago, not last week.

•••

WAY TO GO Coach Hopkins and congratulations Linden varsity football. We are so proud to be a part of this team. Keep up the good work.

•••

REGARDING CAL THOMAS’ Helen Gurley Brown smack down: the sexual revolution was already underway when Ms. Brown became editor of Cosmopolitan. A lot of young lives would have been ruined were it not for the information in her magazine. She taught women to respect and protect ourselves. God bless her.

•••

LOOKING FOR INFORMATION on the burning of the duck blind on Lake Ponemah, on Friday, Aug. 24. If you have information please contact Officer Mark Harrison, Genesee County Sheriff’s Department.

•••

FENTON SCHOOLS, YOU want me to approve your millage? Buy school supplies and stop building field turf football fields and brand new tracks, installing expensive electronic signs, and scoreboards.

•••

PLEASE, PEOPLE WATCH for motorcycles. The girl in the white car, you almost killed me, turning in the gas station on Silver Lake Road. It just takes a second longer to wait.

•••

THANK YOU BENJAMIN Smith for voting against spending $194,000 to create a few parking spaces in downtown Fenton (or $4,850 per space). DDA and city council what are you thinking of next to spend our tax dollars on? Cheryl King and Les Bland where were you when this vote was taken?

•••

I’M SO GLAD that Genesee county animal control has nothing better to do than bother a new resident about dog licenses and charge me $80. Would have been nice to know I needed them when I moved in.

•••

MY MOTHER NOW thinks my father is cheating on her because he comes home late from work every night due to the North LeRoy Street construction. This is getting ridiculous.

•••

PLEASE, FENTON, REALIGN the left-turn lanes on east/west Silver Lake Road at LeRoy Street so they are directly across from one another to make it easier to see oncoming traffic when turning left. It would only require moving the lines on the west side of the intersection northward.

•••

I THINK WE should change the Lake Fenton football colors to red, white and black. It would make all of the Swartz Creek transfer students and old Swartz Creek football coaches feel more at home.

•••

COULD WE HAVE an update on Sue Osborn? Thank you.

•••

WHY IS IT Holly privatized its custodial staff? Made a lot of budget cuts, but still cry that they’re broke. Could Mr. Barnes explain that?

•••

I JUST WANT to say how nice the car show in Fenton was the other day. The only thing that really turned me off was the people with the dogs. Leave your dogs at home. They don’t need to go to a car show.

•••

TEXTBOOK PRINTERS ARE now catering to the right-wing Texas school board. This will take us back to the dark ages. Thinking the earth is the center of the universe and McCarthyism. If you don’t believe me, go on the Internet and check it out.

•••

VERY NICE FALL sports preview magazine! It was very nice and very thorough.

•••

I THOUGHT THAT the possibility of Holly schools asking to place its millage back on the ballot three months after it was voted down was nervy, but Fenton asking for more when they just got a millage renewal really takes the cake. More, more, more. All the school boards want.

•••

THE COMMENT ABOUT the retirement park and dogs, it’s funny I’ve been taking my dog there for three years now and no one has ever said a word about it. This person must be new to the park. There’s always one in every neighborhood that complains.

•••

TO THE PERSON who says they want a donkey, you’re behind the times! There’s a lot of donkeys, or jackasses, living in Fenton now. We have our quota.

•••

SO HAPPY TO read that the Fenton Winery and Brewery has bought the former Creative Wood building. We have always thought that location could make a great restaurant. We loved shopping at the store when it was Creative Wood. They always had so many neat items.

•••

CONGRATULATIONS TO LINDEN’S varsity football team in their hard-fought victory over Fenton in a game where they were not favored to win! Once again, they’ve shown how much heart and endurance they have. Your school is proud of you Eagles!

•••

It’s not just coincidence that two bolts won’t hold anything together, nor will two nuts. It takes a nut and a bolt together to create the union where the sum is greater than the parts.

•••

REDUCING TEACHERS’ SALARIES and benefits surely helps the state’s pocketbook, but it will not help our kids. These individuals spend more time with your kids than you do. Education quality will not rise with reduced compensation and increased frustration. There is no incentive to deal with your lack of parenting.

•••

IT SADDENS ME to hear that we are losing an all around amazing man from the Lake Fenton football team, Coach Hyder. He has devoted so much time to our group of boys and should be out on the field with them. Do what it takes and get him back.

•••

THOMAS’ ARTICLE ON Helen Gurley Brown was concerning. Saying women who supported her ‘ingested her poison’ and implying their lives are now ‘shattered’ due to her influence sounds like a man who is threatened by the influence an intelligent woman can have over society. Any other women offended?

•••

TO THE WARD and Starrs families — please know that you are in our prayers each and every day. We pray that your little Bella will recover and go on to lead a wonderful and healthy life. The community stands behind you all in this difficult time.

•••

IS THIS A joke? The city of Fenton would spend $193,823 to add parking? What grassy area are you going to rip out? The council needs to stop spending our tax dollars on things we cannot afford right now. Just say no! It’s not hard.

•••

THANKS TO THE parents who complained about Fenton buses being unable to route all over the state of Michigan to pick up your kids. The bus that passes right in front our house is no longer able to pick up my kids. Much appreciated! (In my best sarcastic font.)

•••

WHEN WILL THE idiots on Orchard Drive in Holly realize the neighbors have easement rights to the lake and not put their pontoon boat on there all winter? It is illegal, as they have been told by lawyers, police and village of Holly. Obey the law.

•••

FENTON, WE CANNOT afford to pay higher taxes for yet another school bond. Our existing tax dollars should be paying for buses. Why not try some cost-cutting ideas to help fund technology instead of raising taxes. No means no.

•••

WE HAVE BEEN very satisfied with the work Enbridge has done on our property. Two years ago, we had an assigned contact agent and again this year we have someone to talk to and answer questions as often as we’d like. Keep up the good job Enbridge.

•••

ARGENTINE RESIDENTS, KEEP a tight grip on your wallets. The township is coming after more of our money again, township wide for police, fire and garbage. The majority of the board ignored our requests at the last needs hearing. Please make note of how they vote this time around.

•••

FENTON NEEDS A Golden Corral or Old Country Buffet type of restaurant. Also loved the recent suggestion of a reasonably priced jazz restaurant.

•••

I DOUBT THE marching band director for Linden will respond regarding the previous posts, but something has to be wrong. The band grows smaller by the year. I love watching the band at halftime, and appreciate the kids in it today, but why does it shrink each year?

•••

Haven’t we built enough parking spaces for a private restaurant with our tax dollars? They knew the parking situation when they located there.

•••

People, please go out of your way to support the North Leroy merchants. The incompetence of our city administrators is literally threatening their existence. Thank you.

BEWARE!The following Hot lines are all political commentary

I JUST FOUND out my employer is waiting for Obamacare before they set up next year’s insurance. They will cancel or raise the insurance for workers so they can’t afford it and have to take the cheaper Obamacare. Those retired, like me, will have a big raise hike or drop it and have to go to Obama’s insurance. Now, how do you like the change?

•••

A VOTE FOR Romney is a vote of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich. A vote for Ryan is a vote against Medicare and Social Security. Voting for them is suicide for the working man.

•••

HOPEFULLY, AMERICANS ARE smart enough to see through the claims that the rich should not pay more tax because they are job creators. Bush passed two huge tax cuts for the rich resulting in total failure. Upon his departure, we were losing 80,000 jobs a month.

•••

IF ROMNEY DOESN’T have a job, why would we want to elect a man who is unemployed to be President of the United States?

•••

THE DNC HAS gone over the top using little kids to rant about Allen West. They know nothing about politics. Where are the parents?

•••

THE NATIONAL DEFICIT for this fiscal year will be about $1.3 trillion. This is 8.7 percent of our GDP, which is two and a half times the allowable and customary figure. The U.S economy is barely growing as you can see.

•••

HEY ALL, HERE’S a radical idea. Since men have been running this country since it began in the 1700s, maybe it’s time to surrender the reins to the women. We sure can’t do any worse than what the men are doing, can we?

•••

I AM STILL waiting for the gods of the Republican party to explain to me how they are going to be better than Obama without taking everything away from me that I have very little of left.

•••

Why should Romney be entitled to millions of dollars sitting in the bank while people are going hungry? If he is the humanitarian he says he is, he would use his affluence to help others less fortunate.

•••

OBAMA HAS INVITED 20,000 Muslims to the DNC. I wonder how many are sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood and work in the Obama Administration. Go to Liberty Alliance at alert@libertyalliance.com to find out.

•••

WHEN YOU TALK to a Michigander about politics, you will lose the battle. They are all ‘know-it-alls.’ They all have PhDs in government politics. They are all voting Democrat no matter who is running. They vote with blinders on. They want another four years of economic misery.

•••

VOTE FOR WHO? Romney: pro-life, smaller government, balanced budget, no tax increase, repeal and replace ObamaCare, jobs, fewer regulations, secure the borders. Obama: free condoms, birth control pills, abortions when the previous doesn’t work, partial birth abortions and when baby is born alive, let them die or worst.

•••

WE BUILT THIS. What the heck, this country was not built by the rich, it was built by all of us and most of the blood and sweat was done by the poor and the middle class, which still doesn’t get its fair share.

•••

HOW IS IT that there are two politicians in Rose Township that have requested recounts on their elections and no one has said boo about it? Another waste of taxpayer money, (yes, the township gets to pay for those recounts). Enough is enough already. Quit wasting our money Ms. Slaughter.

•••

GET RID OF Harry Reid and we will have a budget. Oh, I forgot he’s Democrat, Obama’s right hand man. Obama does not want a budget so he can extend the wage freeze for all government employees.

•••

THE NATIONAL DEFICIT for this fiscal year will be about $1.3 trillion. This is 8.7 percent of our GDP, which is two and a half times the allowable and customary figure. The U.S economy is barely growing as you can see.

•••

MR. PRESIDENT, THE American people do not work for you, you work for the American people. You have failed, and you will be fired. As you have said, ‘Elections have consequences.’

•••

SCARY STUFF, OBAMA’S going to take away your liberties and rights, everything the Republicans are fighting for. What a crock!

•••

IN RESPONSE TO Obama being a dictator, Obama has signed 108 executive orders in less than four years. While Bush signed 291 in eight years, not over 1,000 as stated. Get your facts straight before you make bogus claims.

•••

I AM SICK and tired of this President ignoring our constitution, bypassing congress, and passing his own laws. It doesn’t matter if you are a Democrat or a Republican or nothing at all; he is setting a precedent for all future Presidents. He must be stopped in November, please vote.

•••

SINCE THE GOVERNMENT hasn’t had a budget in over three years, does that mean we have been living under socialism?

•••

I AM NOT sure what world you are living in, but Obama is hurting this great country not helping it. He needs to tell his senate to agree to a budget, not disagree. The federal employees are hurting for survival.

i agree with a previous comment, i too like all the political hotlines separated as i also dont care for skimming through the junk either. maybe we could focus on less politics and more hotlines of interest..... seems like all people wanna do lately is complain and brag about politics in here.

It's not disgusting. The last thing I want to look at while driving thru my neighborhood is ice rinks. If they want them in the backyard, fine, but not the fronts. It looks trashy because of their location and especially because of their typically shoddy looking, temporary construction. It's nothing about attacking kids at all, but simply about curb appeal.

WAKE UP IDIOTS. He is entitled to have millions in the bank because he earned it. That's why he is running for President. so all of us can make, have and keep more of what we earn........ I gave more money to Charity last year that did Biden......

I AGREE with the previous comment about the ICE RINK. It is DISGUSTING !!
WHAT ARE PEOPLE SO AFRAID OF THAT YOU CAN'T STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT!
I am so disappointed by the citizens of the neighborhood that are trying to stop this father from doing something positive for the children in his neighborhood.
LET THE KIDS PLAY !! Children are our future !!
YOU CAN COME BUILD YOUR RINK IN OUR YARD FOR FREE!! We have a large backyard. I know it's not the same but the kids should be able to play!

Why is no one questioning the logic of spending 90 thousand dollars on a pump station that 99.9% of Fenton residents will never see?

Love love love how the Hot Lines had political comments at the very bottom separate from the normal ones! Keep doing that! It was way more enjoyable to read the normal ones without having to skim through the junk!

Somebody needs to be held responsible for spending 90,000 dollars of unbudgeted city funds to hide a sewer pump station especially when it is now 25K over what it was expected to cost.
