White out conditions caused a multi-car crash on northbound U.S. 23 south of Thompson Road at about 1 p.m. Saturday. Mundy Township, Fenton Township Fire, Fenton police and Genesee County Sheriff's deputies responded to the icene, which closed the highway in both directions for a couple of hours causing congestion in many connecting roads including Torrey Road, North Road and Lahring Road. Several ambulance services were called to the scenes as at least one rollover occurred. Minor injuries were reported.

Fenton Township Fire Chief Ryan Volz said approximately 30 vehicles, including a semi were involved with the crash. He said within a 3/4-mile stretch of the highway, white out conditions prompted crashes in the northbound and southbound lanes between Lahring and Thompson roads. Southbound crashes outnumbered and were more severe than the northbound crashes. About 15 vehicles were involved and one vehicle collided with the semi, causing both to catch fire.

At least five motorists from the southbound traffic were transported to area hospitals while four motorists from the northbound lanes were transported to the hospital. Volz said there were some extensive injuries, however, none were life threatening.

After clearing the scene, Volz said, "It was just a mess."
