A 33-year-old Fenton woman died Wednesday night in Shelby Township after the car she rode in veered off northbound M-53, near 22 Mile Road. The driver, a 28-year-old male from Sterling Heights, also died.
Shelby Township police said witnesses reported that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and was weaving through traffic at approximately 9:30 p.m., prior to the accident. Preliminary investigation reveals that the vehicle rolled several times into a wooded area after running off the road, ejecting the Fenton woman and trapping the driver inside of the vehicle. Police said neither individual was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol appears to have played a factor.
Police said the names of the deceased would be released upon notification of family members. Be sure to check tctimes.com for updates.
