Matt and Marty Ward of Fenton announce the engagement of their son, Patrick, to Morgan Alyce Thurston. She is the daughter of Larry and Caryn Thurston of Fenton. He will finish a five-year plumbing apprenticeship in June, and is currently employed by Ecker Mechanical Contractors. The bride-elect is a 2003 graduate of Linden High School and a 2007 graduate of the University of Michigan-Flint. She is a registered nurse at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc Township. A spring 2010 wedding is planned. March 1st, 2010 February 28th, 2010 Holly — A 19-year-old Mt. Morris man is lodged in the Oakland County Jail after he was apprehended by Holly police officers on Wednesday. Fenton — To fix something, sometimes it first needs cleaning. Fenton City Council has approved $3,300 from IISG for cleaning a sodium hydroxide tank at the water plant. Holly — The circus will be coming to Lakeside Park in Holly on Aug. 14. There will be two shows, which organizers are certain will sell out. February 27th, 2010 Holly Village — The Holly Village Council meeting ended with a bang on Tuesday, as President Peter Clemens made a motion to ask Council member William Kuyk to pay for $775 in attorney fees. Clemens’ motion asked Kuyk to compensate village citizens for the money spent in lawyers’ fees to handle an Open Meetings Act (OMA) complaint (see sidebar) filed by Kuyk and another village resident. Fenton — On Saturday, March 6, Ten Thousand Villages will make a return visit to Fenton. He needed a liver transplant and was given six months to live. That was a few years ago. February 26th, 2010 Fenton — The Fenton City Council has approved the sale of up to $4.25 million in bonds, for the Adelaide Street water and street project. It is the first step in the process for issuing capital improvement bonds for the project. February 24th, 2010 Holly Twp. — A home invasion has left the Yagiela family with a dead pet, a ransacked house and many stolen belongings. Tyrone Twp. — At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic violence call in the Tyrone Woods mobile home community. The call quickly escalated to a barricaded gunman situation. Tyrone Twp. — Two consent agreements, with amendments, between Tyrone Woods manufactured housing community and Tyrone Township are ready to be signed by the township clerk and supervisor. Linden — On Monday, the Linden City Council accepted the resignation of Suzanne Lossing, who has been serving as the city of Linden’s representative to the Southern Lakes Parks & Recreation (SLPR) commission. February 23rd, 2010 Linden — Linden police believe they have a suspect in a residential break-in, which occurred at a home on Ripley Road, near Tickner Street on Jan. 15. Supervisor Jesse Lambert (left), of Holly Township, honors William Angus with the new Marathon Award, for 15 or more years of service to the township. Other honorees include former supervisor Dale Smith, former treasurer Bernice Alexander-Phelps and planning commissioner George Barton. Lambert developed the award, upon realizing Holly Township didn’t have a way to honor longtime employees, elected officials and volunteers. February 22nd, 2010 Tyrone Twp. — The Board of Trustees unanimously voted to approve a contract with the Hartland/Deerfield Fire Authority, pending coverage boundary lines, at its meeting on Tuesday. The effective date of the contract is April 1. Supervisor Andrew Schmidt was absent. Holly — With declining revenue and increasing costs, Holly Area Schools is like many organizations in Michigan — it needs to cut costs. Superintendent Kent Barnes said he will be recommending between $2.5 million and $3 million in reductions to the Board of Education, in order for the school district to be financially solvent. Lake Fenton — With 36 years in education and approaching a decade as superintendent for Lake Fenton Community Schools, Ralph Coaster says it’s time to retire — based on both professional and personal reasons. February 21st, 2010 William and Roberta LeBaron of Fenton have announced the engagement of their daughter, Mary, to Christopher Neihoff, son of Leslie and Diane Neihoff of Auburn Hills. The bride-elect has an associate’s degree in business management, and is currently working on a bachelor’s degree in Web development. Her fiancé is employed by Peninsula Plastics, and is working on an associate’s degree in computer programming and a bachelor’s degree in video game design. A July 2011 wedding is planned. February 20th, 2010 Holly Twp. — The Economic Development Task Force has a survey it would like to mail to 2,000 Holly Township and village residents. The information from the survey will be available to anyone, including the village, township, chamber of commerce, festival planners and Downtown Development Authority (DDA). Fenton — The goal: a central location for helping people in the community who are in need. Area church leaders are working with Fenton Area Resource & Referral (F.A.R.R.) to accomplish this. The Fenton Hotel Tavern & Grille is going to be the place to be on Thursday, March 11, as the Fenton Area Public Schools Education Foundation (FAPSEF) hosts its fifth annual “Colonel Fenton’s Founders Day Texas Hold ‘em Tournament.” February 19th, 2010 Insurance costs are a large portion of many families’ budgets. And, insurance fraud increases those costs, by an average of $200 to $300 annually, per family, according to the Michigan Insurance Fraud Awareness Coalition. February 18th, 2010 Fenton Twp. — The Fenton Township Board of Trustees held a public hearing and first reading of a proposed Medical Marijuana Ordinance on Monday. There was no public comment. Rose Twp. — The township board has rejected proposals from private parties for farming and cutting timber at Dearborn Park. Township officials are looking at recreation plans for the park, including walking trails, Supervisor Alison Kalcec said.
