• State-of-the-art studio offers pre-professional classical ballet training and Pilates

Brooke Holvick has opened the Fenton Ballet Theatre in her home community where she and her husband, Gary, are raising their four children. The 6,000-square-foot studio is in the lower level of the new Silver Lakes Crossing building at 3309 W. Silver Lake Rd., Suite G in Fenton.

What makes ballet such excellent training for all types of dance?

Ballet is the foundation of a dancer’s technique. It requires a strong work ethic, perseverance, dedication, motivation, stamina, flexibility and strength. It is an art form that develops discipline and determination. We strive to maintain a disciplined environment with a focus on modesty using age-appropriate movement and material. Our goal is to reveal a child’s true potential through developing a lifelong love of dance, movement and appreciation of classical ballet.

What classes do you offer?

We have seven levels of Classical Ballet for ages 7 to 18, specialty classes in Partnering, Pointe and Classical Variations, Homeschool Ballet during the day, Beginner and Advanced Ballet, Lyrical for all ages, Mommy & Me for ages 18 months to 3 years, Creative Movement for 3- and 4-year-olds, Pre-Ballet for 5- and 6-year-olds and Private Coaching by appointment. Our Bloom Pilates classes, offering full service STOTT™ Pilates, will have a grand opening in January 2018 but we offer some classes now. For details, visit Fentonballettheatre.com

What is your studio like?

Six-foot-high garden windows and 12-foot-high ceilings welcome dancers into three ballet studios with sprung flooring, plus three dressing rooms and two bathrooms. We are proud to offer our Bloom Pilates Studio and our dance boutique, The Twirl Shop. The studio has a warm, inviting atmosphere with a coffee and snack bar.

What is your ballet background?

I began my classical ballet training at the Brighton School of Ballet, then continued training at Alma College as a member of the Alma College Dance Company. Dancing on a scholarship, I performed solos in The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, among many others. Earning my Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre and Dance, I was on staff at Brighton School of Ballet until this year, 2017, when my dream to open my own studio became a reality.
